• The fee for a Clinical Psychologist is $290 for a 50-minute appointment.

The Medicare rebate for a Clinical Psychologist when you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from a GP is currently $145.25.

This means that the gap you pay after claiming the Medicare rebate is $144.75.

  • The cost of an appointment at Labyrinth Psychology reflects the skills, knowledge, experience, education, and training that your clinician brings with them to your assessment and treatment.

Clinical psychologists are skilled mental health professionals who have usually completed at least 5 years of university education in addition to further training as a Clinical Psychology Registrar.

The 50 minutes you have face-to-face in session with your therapist is only part of what your fee encompasses.

The cost of an appointment also includes:

    • the time taken to correspond with your other health providers.

It is a mandatory government requirement that psychologists provide written reports to the referring GP for clients attending treatment under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

    • the time your therapist dedicates to your assessment and formulation, then developing your individualised treatment plan

    • documenting your progress

As an AHPRA registered allied health professional your psychologist is required to keep administrative contact records and clinical notes documenting the psychological services they provide to you. This a mandatory regulatory requirement and it is non-negotiable.

    • ongoing monitoring and review of your treatment progress, goals, and needs.

  • To obtain a rebate under Better Access (Medicare) you will need to provide a current valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and referral prior to your appointment.

Referrals/MHTPs are provided by General Practitioners (GPs).

  • Your referral should be emailed to admin@labyrinthpsychology.com.

  • Medicare requirements mean that your GP needs to clearly state in your referral letter (separate from the Mental Health Treatment Plan) the number of mental health appointments they are providing you access to. This should be either 6 appointments or 4 appointments.

If your GP has not included this information we will ask you to contact your medical clinic to have the referral corrected and sent to us again.

We understand and agree that this additional administrative burden can be very frustrating. Unfortunately, Medicare has certain rules that we have to follow in order for you to access mental health treatment rebates.
